Taking BART is the socially responsible way to get here, but if you need to drive, it's easy to do so and easy to park on the street (this is, after all, Oakland, and not San Francisco).

You'll find a fancier map of the neighborhood at maps.google.com.

Via BART

435 Clifton Street is 3 blocks south of the Rockridge BART station, which is on the SFO/Millbrae <--> Pittsburg/Bay Point line (yellow on the BART map). Trains run every 15-20 minutes. (To see a schedule, click here, choose Pittsburg/Bay Point - SFO/Millbrae or SFO/Millbrae - Pittsburg/Bay Point, and choose a schedule type - Weekday, Saturday, or Sunday/Holiday). As of August 2010, the trip costs $3.50 one-way from downtown San Francisco.

From San Francisco, take the Pittsburg/Bay Point train. From Contra Costa County, take the SFO/Millbrae train. In either case, get off at the Rockridge station. When you come down off the Rockridge station platform, go right (west) on Keith. Keith immediately bends to the left (with Market Hall on your left and the BART parking lot on your right), and becomes Shafter. Walk up Shafter two long blocks, turn left on Clifton, and 435 is the second house on the right.

Via car

From San Francisco, cross the Bay Bridge, take 580 towards Oakland, and exit onto route 24 (towards Walnut Creek). Shortly after you get on 24, take the Claremont Avenue exit. At the bottom of the exit ramp, stay in the right lane and go straight onto Clifton Street. Drive three blocks (to just beyond the second stop sign) to 435 Clifton Street.

From Marin County, cross the Richmond/San Rafael bridge and continue on 580 east as it turns south and joins up with highway 80. Move into the left lanes and take 580 east towards Oakland (don't get onto the Bay Bridge or highway 880). Follow the remaining instructions in the San Francisco paragraph.

From points south of Oakland, take 880 north. As you pass downtown Oakland on your right, stay in the right lanes so that you curve around to the right onto 980 (don't get onto highway 80). Once you're on 980, stay in the middle or left lanes so that you continue straight onto highway 24 (don't get onto highway 580). Take the Claremont Avenue exit and follow the remaining instructions in the San Francisco paragraph.

From Contra Costa county, take route 24 through the Caldecott Tunnel and get off at the College Avenue exit. Turn left (south) on College Avenue, go four long blocks, and turn right on Clifton (just before College joins Broadway). #435 is six short blocks down on the left.
